has been the Artistic Director/Choreographer of Forces of Nature Dance Theatre for the past thirty years. He is a critically acclaimed choreographer/director who has also received recognition on four continents for his dance theatre work on the African Diaspora and the environment . Mr. Salaam received Choreographers Fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and New York Foundation of the Arts , as well as commissions from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, the National Committee for Young Audiences, the Bronx Council on the Arts, the Department of Cultural Affairs, and the New York State Council on the Arts. Additionally, Mr. Salaam’s awards and fellowships include: the Monarch Merit Award for Outstanding Achievement in Dance from the National Council for Arts & Culture; the Silver Anniversary Award for Outstanding Achievement in Choreography, Teaching and Performance from Lehman College of the City University of New York; Carla Sayrce Alumni Award in Dance Arts, Lehman College of the City University of New York; Morani Shujaa Award in Black Studies, Lehman College of the City University of New York; Dance Africa Award in Choreography, Brooklyn Academy of Music; American Choreographer of the Year nomination; and Better Family Life Lifetime Achievement Award in the Arts. Mr. Salaam and Forces of Nature Dance Theatre’s “Rhythm Legacy: The Living Books” and “Eclipse: Visions of the Crescent and the Cross” which toured nationally and internationally from 2002-present was created through grants awarded by The New England Foundation of the Arts.
Mr. Salaam’s theatrical credits as a choreographer include: “Sundiata, the Lion King of Mali” directed by David Schecter at Theaterworks USA; “Measure for Measure” directed by Michael Rudman at the New York Shakespeare Festival’s Delacorte Theater; and “Pecong” directed Dennis Zacek at the Newark Symphony Hall. As a director/choreographer, Mr. Salaam’s credits include: “Ju-Ju Man” at the Billie Holiday Theater in New York; “Ancestral Earths” at the Apollo Theater in New York; “The Life and Legend of Marie Laveau” at the Aaronow Theater in New York; the national tour of “Sweet Saturday Night”, Gordon Crowe Productions; and “American Griot” at the Triplex Theater in New York.

He was also in the DreamWorks Pictures film, GHOST TOWN starring Ricky Gervais, and is honored to perform in this, his first NYMF production.
Hailed by Variety as “a sensational powerhouse of a singer packed in a lithe body”, N’Kenge made her Broadway debut in “Sondheim on Sondheim” performing alongside Vanessa Williams and Barbara Cook and directed by James Lapine. N’Kenge has recently returned from starring in the World Tour of the Michael Jackson Tirbite Show and has been taking the music scene by storm with her versatility and show stopping stage presence. A native New Yorker and graduate of both the Juilliard School and Manhattan School of Music, N’Kenge has been performing around the world singing from Opera to Pop. She recently made her Carnegie Hall debut as a soloist with the New York Pops Orchestra where New York Times compared N’Kenge to a “more classically oriented Lena Horne”. Other solo appearances include Alice Tully Hall performing alongside Wynton Marsalis and Ornette Coleman at Lincoln Center. N’Kenge was last seen on national television performing for the Commander-in-Chief’s Inaugural Ball hosted by President Obama. 2011-2012 is an exciting year for N’Kenge with a release of a new solo album produced by Berry Gordy and performing as a soloist with both the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and Naples Philharmonic Orchestra. N’Kenge made her West End debut starring in The Genius of Ray Charles show at the Royal Haymarket Theater in London and received nominations in Outstanding Lead Actress playing the title role in both Elton John’s Aida and Marion Caffey’s 3 Mo’Divas. In addition to the concert stage, N’Kenge has been seen in a range of opera roles including Susanna in The Marriage of F igaro, Musetta in La Boheme and Therese in Les Mamelles de Tiresias. Kris Coleman is Originally from Los Angeles California. Coleman is a graduate of Hampton University, where he received a BA in Accounting, with a Minor in Theater. On Broadway, Krisportrayed the role of Hal Miller, in "Jersey Boys." Most recently, Coleman was personally invited to Malaysia to star in the Malaysian Premier of "Dreamgirls" as James Thunder Early. Additional credits include: Sister Act (workshop) originated the role of TJ, Dreamgirls (Curtis), Once on This Island (Agwe), A Midsummer Nights Dream (Oberon) and Big River (Jim). Television and Film credits include: The Big House (ABC), Dumbbomb Affair, and The Clone. In addition Coleman has performed in New York's Lincoln Center and with the R&B group the Temptations.

is the artistic director of Refractions Dance Collective. She received her BFA in Dance from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts. Her choreography has been produced by Triskelion Arts and commissioned by Consortium of the Arts. She has served as the rehearsal director for Dance Theater Etc.’s production of Angels and Accordions. Charmian has danced with Forces of Nature Dance Theater, under the direction of Abdel Salaam, since 2005.
Courtney is a native of Queens, New York where she began classical training at Dance Theatre of Harlem at the age of 3. While continuing her dance training at DTH, she was accepted into LaGuardia High School of Performing Arts, the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and SUNY Purchase dance programs. She has been given the opportunity to work with choreographers such as Arthur Mitchell, Robert Garland, Zvi Gotheiner, Janis Brenner, Troy Brown, Hope Boykin, Kevin Wynn, and Sidra Bell. She joined Forces of Nature in 2006.
is a native of Cincinnati, Oh. As a Philadelphia and New York based artist she has danced with Forces of Nature (Abdel Salaam), Nathan Trice's R i t u a l s, Idiosyncrazy Productions, Dance Theater X under the Direction of Charles Anderson, and Smoke, Lilies, and Jade Arts Initiative under the direction of Zane Booker both listed in Dance Magazine's "25 to Watch". She has studied at the Ailey School, Jacob's Pillow, Cincinnati Ballet, and the School for Creative and Performing Arts in Cincinnati. Most recently, she Nationally toured the World Premier of World Headquaters with DTX. She is proud to be apart of this project and dedicates this program to her Mother for always believing.
Native of the Island of St. Martin, he trained at the Rick Odums Professional Dance Institute. His performing career began in 2004 with the Ballets Jazz Rick Odums, along with the Armstrong Jazz Ballet; In France he performed works by Donald McKayle, Ronald K. Brown, Eleo Pomare, Isadora Duncan, Anna Sokolow, Charles Weidman, Helen Tamaris, Asadata dafora, Talley Beatty, Pearl Primus and Katherin Dunham. He also works with Nathan Trice and joined FONDT in 2010.
Double Dutch meeting Martha Graham meeting African dance meeting beatboxing best describes Johari Mayfield’s eclectic enclave of dance, music, and choreographic exploration. As a performer, she’s done it all from being a priestess, to carrying Christmas packages as a chipmunk at Radio City Music Hall to dodging explosives in two operas. Currently she is a principal soloist and rehearsal director for Forces of Nature Dance Theatre Company in New York.
