Meeting Our Heroes: A Tribute to the Composers Who Inspire Us

Join four of musical theater's legendary composers and four emerging songwriters for an intimate, history-making night of songs and stories as we pay tribute to the writers who inspire us. Featuring a cast of Broadway friends, this one-night-only concert opens NYMF with music from legendary and new writers alike and honors the individuals who have made an indelible mark on the musical theater community.

Danny Abosch

Danny Abosch (Composer)

Danny Abosch wrote music and lyrics for Fancy Nancy the Musical (Off-Broadway 2012-2014, National Tour 2013-2015) and Placebo (PMTP Development Award, Pasadena Playhouse 2012, dir. Ryan Scott Oliver). Originally from Deerfield, IL, Danny is a graduate of the University of Michigan and of NYU’s Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program. Danny’s songs have been featured in William Finn's concert series Songs By Ridiculously Talented Composers and Lyricists You Probably Don’t Know, But Should, the TV show Dance Moms, and the upcoming film Waiting in the Wings. Danny lives in New York City and is currently working on two new musicals.



Kellen Blair

Kellen Blair (Composer)

Kellen is the Drama Desk nominated co-creator of Murder For Two (off Broadway: Second Stage Theatre and New World Stages. World premiere: Chicago Shakespeare Theatre). Kellen and co-creator Joe Kinosian are the recipients of the Joseph Jefferson Award for Best New Musical Work in Chicago (2011) and the ASCAP Foundation Mary Rodgers / Lorenz Hart Award (2013). Their work has been showcased on Broadway, the Kennedy Center, and theaters across the country. Joe Kinosian

Joe Kinosian (Composer)

Joe Kinosian is the composer and co-bookwriter (with Kellen Blair) of Murder For Two, which was nominated for Drama Desk, Drama League, and Outer Critics Circle Awards this season. Joe and Kellen received a Joseph Jefferson Award for Chicago Shakespeare Theater's production of Murder For Two (Best New Musical); Joe also received a nomination for Best Leading Actor. Madeline Myers

Madeline Myers (Composer)

Madeline Myers is a composer and lyricist for musical theater based in New York. Madeline’s current show, Legends & Lore, was workshopped at the Fingerlakes Musical Theater Festival (2013), featured in concert at NYMF (2013), and received an ASCAP reading (2012). She is an alumna of the New Dramatists Composer-Librettist Studio, the Johnny Mercer Songwriter’s Project, and placed first in the Ken Davenport Songwriting Contest. Madeline has been honored to work with Laurence O’Keefe, Michael John la Chiusa, Jason Robert Brown, and Georgia Stitt as a music assistant. When not writing music, Madeline enjoys volunteering, music directing, reading, running, and cooking. Alexander Sage Oyen

Alexander Sage Oyen (Composer)

Alexander Sage Oyen is a composer/lyricist living and working in NYC. His musicals include Outlaws (dir. Noah Himmelstein, book by James Presson), Money$hot! (2014 Orlando Fringe, book by James Presson), and A Night Like This. He was awarded the 2013/2014 Dramatist Guild Fellowship with his collaborater James Presson and their musical, Outlaws, was selected for the 2014 ASCAP Workshop and was also a 2014 finalist for NAMT. Currently developing many projects, you can soon hear his song cycle, Moment by Moment, on iTunes and Amazon along with his other albums - both volumes of Drafts and If I Knew Better. He loves a lot of artists but only steals from a few - listen closely, you'll hear.



Jeremiah Ginn

Jeremiah Ginn (Performer)

After a successful run Off-Broadway in Murder for Two, Jeremiah Ginn is excited to honor these distinguished composers by singing their music as well as the music of such amazing new talent. Off-Broadway: Murder for Two at Second Stage Uptown and New World Stages (Written by tonight’s duo Kinosian and Blair!). National Tour: A Chorus Line (Baayork Lee, Dir/Chor.) Regional: North Shore Music Theatre, Goodspeed Opera House, Hale Centre Theatre. Thanks to Madeline, Jaime, Jenny, and Paul. Janet Krupin

Janet Krupin (Performer)

Born and raised in Washington State. Broadway: Bring It On (Kylar), If/Then (Swing), Hands on A Hardbody (Dance Capt). Awards: LA's Next Great Stage Star, StagesceneLA's Breakout Star. Film: HITS directed by David Cross. BA 2010 USC Cinematic Arts, double minor in musical theatre and philosophy. Original host and writer for popular YouTube series The Click Clique. Five-time gold medalist at the Northwest Music Festival. Janet is the vocalist and songwriter for EDM duo Trillium @trilliummusic, debuting The Aurora EP 7/26. Charlotte Maltby (Performer)

Charlotte is so honored to be a part of this wonderful evening. New York City credits include Sense and Sensibility (Miss Morton), Michael John LaChiusa’s First Daughter Suite (Susan Ford), We Are The Tigers (Cairo), the reinvented Babes In Toyland at Lincoln Center’s Avery Fisher Hall (Jenny), the original reading of 13 (entitling the role of Charlotte) and Hello! My Baby (Nelly Gold). Regional Credits include Les Miserables at The Muny (Fantine). Film credits include Ithaca, The Last Five Years, and AWOL. Charlotte is a current senior at the University of Michigan. @cmalts



Bryce Ryness

Bryce Ryness (Performer)

Originally from California, Bryce Ryness traded coasts back in 2006. Since making "the move", he's appeared on Broadway in First Date at the Longacre Theater, Leap of Faith at the St. James, the 2009 Tony Award-winning revival of Hair at the Hirschfeld Theater (where he received a Drama Desk nomination for 'Best Featured Actor in a Musical'), and Legally Blonde at the Palace Theater. 

Off-Broadway, he just wrapped up work in Fly By Night at Playwrights Horizons. You may have also caught him leading, Around The World in 80 Days, See Rock City & Other Destinations, and Crossing Brooklyn. Regionally, he's been in such compelling pieces of theater as Sleeping Beauty Wakes (McCarter Theater & La Jolla Playhouse), Floyd Collins (Los Angeles premiere, Ovation Nom.), and Cabaret (Reprise Theater Co., LA). He also led the national touring company of RENT (2006), playing "Roger". 

With his band, RYNESS, he's written and recorded two albums, available on iTunes. Film: Tangled (Thug). TV: Law & Order: SVU, Just For Kicks, Late Show, Tonight Show. Finally, Bryce has sung backup for such illustrious artists as Josh Groban, Roger Daltrey, and Sarah Brightman. He supports World Vision, Invisible Children, and Trinity Grace Church. Bryce and his wife, Meredith, have three terrific children and live in Washington Heights. Thank you for supporting the arts!



Jennifer Ashley Tepper

Jennifer Ashley Tepper (Host)

Jennifer Ashley Tepper is the Director of Programming at 54 Below, and the author of The Untold Stories of Broadway. A musical theatre historian and producer, she has worked on Broadway shows including [title of show], Godspell, The Performers, and Macbeth. She is the co-creator and writer of the Bistro Award- winning concert series If It Only Even Runs A Minute, which celebrates underappreciated musicals. In addition, Tepper is Managing Editor of The Best Plays Theater Yearbook. Other credits include projects and shows with Ars Nova, NAMT, The Producing Office, PBS, The Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization, Second Stage Theatre Company, The York Theatre, and The American Theatre Wing’s Tony Awards. Tepper collaborates often with the group known as "Joe Iconis & Family" on musicals and concerts. She is always excited to return to NYMF.
