Awash in a salty milieu of fishermen and labor/temperance activists, in 1908, parallel love stories are threatened. Marina, loves Angus, but because of unresolved grief over her son's death, she refuses his proposal of marriage. .  Meanwhile, Filipino cannery engineer, Emilio, falls in love with the winsome Caucasian daughter of the cannery manager.  Mama objects, but when the "Star of Bengal,"  (a floating cannery) sinks, Emilio and Angus are heros. Will love's redemptive power triumph?

Justin Melland (Composer/Lyrics)

Composer Justin Melland’s ability to rapidly create rich, poignant music and his masterful command over a wide array of musical styles has quickly placed him among today’s most sought after film composers.  After finishing his Master’s Degree in music composition at UCLA and UC Berkeley, one of his first composing positions was to write an original score for The Death of Kevin Carter, Casualty of the Bang Bang Club which was nominated in 2006 for an Oscar® by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and is distributed by HBO. He has also written the scores for the documentary films When The Storm Came (Winner, Best US short film Sundance 2004) Under Our Skin (Tribeca 2008), Life 2.0 (Sundance 2010), and The Redemption Of General Butt Naked, (Sundance 2011).  With over 50 feature and documentary film credits to his name, Justin has become known for his wonderfully eclectic scores and his constant use of the finest studio musicians, which always elevate his music to the highest level of quality. This has made him the favorite of a growing number of award winning producers in both the live action and documentary film worlds which has created a very demanding but deeply rewarding composing environment.

In addition to his very full film composing schedule, he has also written the scores for eight successful television series: National Geographic Explorer, Inside (National Geographic/PBS), Undercover History (National Geographic), City Confidential (A&E), Frontline/WORLD (PBS, Discovery/Times), Human Weapon (History), Live Through This (Fuse), and Snapped (Oxygen).

Justin has recently been awarded and ASCAP award for the 2011 year in the top TV Series Composer category, and will be receiving his award at a black tie event at the Bevely Hills Hotel on June 28, 2012.
