Being a part of NYMF's Next Broadway Sensation was an unforgettable experience. I got to be coached by and perform for one of my favorite composers Ryan Scott Oliver, and receive feedback from industry proffesionals. What more could I want?

NYMF's Next Broadway Sensation

NYMF’s Next Broadway Sensation (NNBS) combines a singing competition and master class to discover the stars of tomorrow and give them their big break today.  The winner of the competition is awarded their own cabaret style showcase produced by NYMF!

NYMF’s Next Broadway Sensation (NNBS) combines singing competition and master class to discover the stars of tomorrow and give them their big break today. While receiving coaching from some of musical theater’s leading artists and hottest emerging writers, performers compete to claim the ultimate prize: their very own solo concert produced by NYMF. Contestants have gone on to appear in numerous Broadway shows, including Once, American Idiot, Newsies, The Last Ship, Phantom of the Opera, Hair, Les Miserables, South Pacific, West Side Story, and Violet. Last year’s winner, Kathryn Allison, recently made her Broadway debut in Aladdin.

NNBS auditions are open to any adult performer who has not yet appeared on Broadway. From hundreds of auditionees, 20 contestants are chosen to compete in a series of performance heats, singing for a live audience and a panel of industry judges who provide guidance and feedback to the contestants. Past celebrity judges have included Jeremy Jordan, Jonathan Groff, Marc Shaiman, J. Robert Spencer, Tom Kitt, Andrea McArdle, Lucy Simon, and Gavin Creel, among others.

After the contestants are whittled down to a smaller group of Grand Finalists, each performer is assigned a mentor from among the most prominent new theater composers. Working directly with those writers, the Finalists perform a special showcase concert sponsored by The ASCAP Foundation. The winner is then crowned as NYMF's Next Broadway Sensation and begins planning their own cabaret style showcase produced at the New York Musical Festival!
