How we select shows

Got a show you think we'd like?

The Next Link Project is our central series of new musicals, accounting for 18 of the 30+ productions in each year's festival. We maintain an open submissions policy and a blind evaluation process to ensure that writers from every level of the theatre community, from working professionals to those whose work has not yet been produced, are given the opportunity to participate.

The submission period for The Next Link Project has now ended for 2007, and will open again January 2008. Knowing that, would you like to learn more about submitting in the future to The Next Link Project?

In addition to our 18 Next Link productions, NYMF presents another 10-15 musicals in each year’s festival as part of our Invited Shows Series. Potential Invited Shows are submitted privately to NYMF by an industry advocate -- an agent, producer, director or theatre company -- or have been scouted by our programming staff members, who attend developmental workshops and readings throughout the year. The slate of invited shows is ultimately selected to increase and diversify each festival’s roster of first-rate musical theatre projects.

While you're waiting to submit it to the New York Musical Theatre Festival next year, you can send it to our parent organization the National Music Theater Network, whose Evaluation Program can give you feedback on your work from professional directors. For 25 years NMTN has maintained its Evaluation Program for the purpose of giving writers and composers valuable, comprehensive, written feedback on their new shows.
