Audience Demographics

Getting to know our audience

NYMF's fan base is very loyal and enthusiastic about the Festival, with many planning their fall entertainment schedule around seeing as many Festival shows as possible.

The typical NYMF audience member is a young (35 or under) woman or gay man working in the creative or entertainment industries.

Most of our audience are in-the-know locals; 95% lives within the five boroughs of New York City.  Over 80% have a college education or beyond, and their average salary is between $75,000 and $100,000.

Approximately 40,000 people will attend the Festival in 2007.  While this is perhaps a moderate-sized audience in a city of 8 million people, it is of most interest to a sponsor or advertiser because of the consistency and loyalty of our demographic.

NYMF audience members are enthusiastic entertainment consumers who choose to interact with a living, vibrant artform.  They are socially forward and willing to sample new products and ideas, hence their excitement in an arts festival.  Live performance is an excellent way to speak directly and immediately with an audience.  Trust us - we've learnt that.

NYMF Numbers
The Festival has grown consistently - and remarkably - over our three years.  From 2005 to 2006, the Festival grew over 65%, setting a number of attendance records.  The first day of tickets sales set a NYMF record, with more than 4,000 seats purchased, and membership sales increased three-fold to over 500.  The 2006 Festival played to over 90% capacity for more than 300 performances.  88% of our productions announced sold-out performances, and demand for tickets led to extended runs for more than one-third of our shows.
