Full Productions
By creating a lower-risk infrastructure based around an “economy of scale,” NYMF is able to provide artists with professional and creative resources they could not otherwise afford or access – including professionally equipped off-Broadway theatres, full technical and design support, marketing opportunities and press exposure, industry introductions, and more – enabling new musicals to break through the “glass ceiling” between the developmental process and full production.
Each year, more than 30 new musicals receive full productions at NYMF. Slightly more than half of the shows come through The Next Link Project, our writer-support program dedicated to helping writers get their work from the page to the stage, which is open to writers the world over. Over 300 works are submitted to the program each year, with the final slate of 18 Next Link Project selections chosen by our Grand Jury, which in 2008 includes Tony Award-winning lyricist Lynn Ahrens (Ragtime, Once On This Island), Tony Award-winning actors Hinton Battle (The Wiz, The Tap Dance Kid, Miss Saigon), and Norbert Leo Butz (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, The Last Five Years), Tony-nominated lyricist Michael Korie (Grey Gardens, The Grapes of Wrath), four-time Tony Award winner Audra McDonald (Ragtime, Carousel, Master Class, Marie Christine), legendary Tony-winning director-choreographer Susan Stroman, and Tony Award-winning producer Elizabeth Williams.
