As part of Ghostlight Summer of Service, we were thrilled to further our partnership with the vital organization, RACKET. to collect menstrual hygiene products to be donated and distributed to people with limited access.
We worked with RACKET. over the course of the Festival, to launch the the NYMF-RACKET. collection drive at each of our venues and our Ticket Services and Audience Hub, with all donations benefiting Covenant House New York, a nonprofit charity serving homeless youth (ages 16-22).
We were delighted to collect over 1200 menstrual hygiene products, which we assembled into individual kits of pads and tampons after the Festival, and donated to Covenant House New York. We also learned that due to drives like this, and the work of RACKET., Covenant House no longer needs to include menstrual hygiene products as a line item in their budget!
RACKET. thinks that all people deserve a shame-free relationship to their periods regardless of socioeconomic circumstances. We aim to redefine menstrual hygiene products as essential; to provide menstruating people access to these products; and to encourage an open dialogue about menstruation, thereby transforming a historically taboo subject into one that connects communities. About Covenant House New York
For more than four decades, Covenant House has helped transform and save the lives of more than a million homeless, runaway and trafficked young people. We offer housing and support services to young people in need – helping over 46,000 boys and girls every year. Coming off the streets, the young people we serve are usually disconnected from their families and other social support – kids who have endured traumatic and adverse childhood experiences. In addition to living on the streets, many have survived abusive homes, spent time in juvenile justice facilities, aged out of foster care or have been victims of human trafficking and exploitation.
