An introduction to the art of writing a musical theater song.

 
This introductory workshop led by Anna K. Jacobs (POP!; Harmony, Kansas; Teeth; Echo) takes participants through an authentic musical theater songwriting process. Participants have explored the relationship between music and language, learned key songwriting tools, discovered the power of writer and performer collaborations, performed original work, and received guidance and feedback in a safe and open environment. This week-long experience culminates in an open presentation and Songwriting Master Class with Special Guest Artists Kait Kerrigan and Brian Lowdermilk (THE MAD ONES, THE WOMAN UPSTAIRS, OUR FIRST MISTAKE).
 
Open to individuals and teams of all backgrounds. 20 spaces available; applications will be accepted until May 31. A limited number of Emerging Composer Scholarships are available thanks to The ASCAP Foundation.
 
Class Time: Wednesday (July 19th) - Saturday (22nd): 9:45am - 12:45 pm
Monday (24th): 9:45am - 12:45pm
Tuesday (25th): 11am - 4pm; Final Showcase: 7pm - 10pm

Guest Artist Feedback and Writer Presentations: From 7:00 pm – 10:00 pm on 7/25. Open to the public. Join us for a public masterclass with Kait Kerrigan and Brian Lowdermilk and participants from Anna K. Jacobs' Musical Songwriting Workshop. Over the week long Musical Songwriting Workshop, participants have been guided through an authentic musical theater songwriting process and this masterclass will showcase what they have been working on.
 
Kait Kerrigan and Brian Lowdermilk will talk about their creative and professional experiences as musical theater writers, then each team who have taken part in Anna K. Jacob's Musical Songwriting Workshop will present their song and they will provide feedback and guidance.
 
Ticket price - $135 Participation fee; $10 for performance on 7/25
