DEEP LOVE: A GHOSTLY ROCK OPERA is a story of love, loss, and indecision where sweethearts become adversaries in pursuit of what they cannot live without. Told entirely through continuous, haunting rock and roll, DEEP LOVE features Jon Peter Lewis from American Idol, his bandmate from The Voice Ryan Hayes (of the group Midas Whale), and Amy Whitcomb from The Voice and The Sing-Off. Heartwarming and heartbreaking, it promises to delight all ages. Audience members are encouraged to come dressed in their best funeral attire.

Running Time: 1 hour and 45 minutes, plus one intermission.

Ryan J Hayes

Ryan J Hayes (Book, Music, Lyrics)

Ryan Hayes is a student of many disciplines. While working professionally as a geologist, he works most passionately as a songwriter. Hayes released the 2014 album, Sugar House as part of the folk duo Midas Whale, which had its debut on NBC’s The Voice in 2013. Usher called Midas Whale “hilarious” and “talented,” while Adam Levine said they were “brilliantly talented vocalists” and “incredibly charismatic.” Deep Love is his first theatrical endeavor.

Garrett Sherwood

Garrett Sherwood (Book, Music, Lyrics; Performer: Friedrich)

Garrett Sherwood follows his passion for writing to many different creative fields. He is the author of two books of poetry; the most recent is titled “All These Hands are Tree Trunks.” He currently lives and works in Salt Lake City and is a writer/contributor for the lifestyle website He also is currently pursuing a Master in Strategic Communication degree from Westminster College. Deep Love is his debut theatrical endeavor.

Jon Peter Lewis

Jon Peter Lewis (Book, Co-Director; Performer: Old Bones)

Jon Peter Lewis, a finalist on Season 3 of American Idol, continues his craft as a singer/songwriter. Simon Cowell praised Lewis for his “very, very good voice,” and Elton John complimented Lewis on his “excellent pitch and phrasing.” After Idol, Lewis released several records. USA Today hailed Lewis’ sophomore CD, "Break the Silence," as “impressive.” In 2013 he became the first Idol finalist to also appear on The Voice. With Deep Love, Lewis returns to his love of theater.

Amy Whitcomb

Amy Whitcomb (Florence)

Amy Whitcomb, a graduate from BYU in Commercial Music, is an accomplished vocalist. She has released two EPs with her band, The Whits, and appeared on a few television shows. She was featured on NBC’s The Sing-Off with her a cappella group Delilah, and most recently asserted her solo career on NBC’s The Voice. When she’s not traveling, performing, or recording, Amy works as a voice teacher and freelance vocalist.

Melanie Stone

Melanie Stone (Constance)

Melanie is an up-and-coming film actress. Her recent credits include the lead in the fantasy series, Mythica, featuring Kevin Sorbo, and the art house film Wildlife with Jon Heder. Stone has appeared in numerous theatrical performances throughout the West and joined the Deep Love cast in 2014 as Constance, the young widow trapped in a world she cannot change.

Pia Hamilton

Pia Hamilton (Dance Captain, Ensemble)

Nicole Adjeleian

Nicole Adjeleian (Dance Ensemble)

Nicole Adjeleian (Ottawa, Canada) began dancing at the Canadian School of Dance and is a recent graduate from the Alvin Ailey School in New York City. She has performed works by Matthew Rushing, Ray Mercer, Alvin Ailey, Amy Hall, Natalie Lomonte, and many more. Nicole is currently dancing with ARIM Dance.

Sarah Danelle Roberts

Sarah Danelle Roberts (Dance Ensemble)

Sarah Danelle Roberts, born and raised in Tallahassee, Florida began her dance training at the Sharon Davis School of Dance then continued with The Tallahassee Ballet Company. Roberts is now a graduate from The Alvin Ailey's certificate program. She has performed numerous works by choreographers Matthew Rushing, Ray Mercer, Amy Hall, Pedro Ruiz and many more.

Adam DiLoreto

Adam DiLoreto (Dance Ensemble)

Adam has performed in numerous shows in Tokyo Disney (Dance Captain), Disney Aladdin A Musical Spectacular in LA, and Radio City Christmas Spectacular in NYC. Adam has also toured Europe with Rasta Thomas' Bad Boys of Dance's production of Romeo and Juliet. He has also performed for several commercial events including Samsung and MAC. Adam is also a sponsored athlete with Capezio.

Matthew Ortner

Matthew Ortner (Dance Ensemble)

Matthew began his dance training at 3 in Putnam Valley, New York. Moving to New York City in 2012, after receiving his B.F.A. in Contemporary Dance from the Boston Conservatory, he is an avid freelance performer and choreographer currently involved with toUch Performance Art, LoudHound Movement, and The People Movers.

Michael Rader (Co-Director)

Ray Mercer (Choreographer)

Ray Mercer is currently in the Broadway cast of The Lion King in New York. He has danced with Deeply Rooted Dance Theatre Chicago, and the Boston Ballet (guest artist). Notable dance awards: 2011 Capezio ACE Awards Finalist, B'way’s Gypsy of the Year Award for best onstage performance in 2005, 2008, 2012, 2013 and 2014. Choreography: Joffrey Ballet’s Choreographers of Color Award 2012, Pensacola Ballet Choreographers Award, Michigan Dance Council Award, Black Theater Alliance Award/Chicago.

Braden Howard (Lighting Designer)

Braden Howard is graduate of Western Wyoming Community College and Utah State University where he studied lighting and sound design. He is a resident lighting designer at Brigham Young University – Idaho in Rexburg and the Heritage Theatre in Perry, Utah. He has also done design work with Utah Festival Opera and other regional performing arts organizations throughout the Mountain West. He is thrilled to join the “Deep Love” family – especially as a part of NYMF.

Matt Searle (Sound Designer)

Matt Searle got his start in the music business working for Cheap LullabyRecords in Venice, CA as Label Coordinator and Studio Manager. He currently specializes in Broadcast and Post Production Audio at Brigham Young University--Idaho.Matt has been involved with Deep Love since 2012.

Bree Perry (Costume Designer)

Bree is a native of Brooklyn, NY. She cut her teeth at the Tony Award Winning Utah Shakespearean Festival then moved to Portland, Oregon where she worked on Portlandia and opened two brick and mortar businesses: a Public Sewing House and a Custom Clothing Shop. She has styled a Sam Smith music video, built clothing for Miss Piggy, tailored Tom Ford suits for Justin Timberlake, costume designed an art film that will be installed in the Palais de Tokyo in Paris this June, and worked on a Miley Cyrus performance. You know, that one with Robin Thicke and the dancing bears.

CJ LaRoche (Stage Manager)

Brianne Stewart (Assistant Stage Manager)

Brianne Stewart is thrilled to be working on the NYMF production of Deep Love. Other stage management credits include Luck Be A Lady (Asolo Rep), The Reality Show (NYU Shanghai), The Water Dream (NYMF), and The Wild Party (NYU). She is also the Assistant General Manager for the New York International Fringe Festival and has worked in production roles at the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center and the Brooklyn Academy of Music. Brianne is a graduate of the Production and Design Studio at NYU/Tisch School of the Arts.

Ariel LaFontaine (Makeup Designer)

Ariel is a makeup artist and photographer from the United States. She attended James Albert School of Cosmetology in California to become a certified makeup artist and licensed aesthetician, and went on to earn her B.A. at Brigham Young University in Idaho. This is her first time at NYMF.

David Goldstein (Scenic Designer)

David received his BFA in Theatre Design and Production from York University in Toronto, Ontario where he worked as a designer and electrician throughout his 4 years of education. Upon graduating, he continued his design work in LA at many venues including the NoHo Arts Center, El Portal Theatre, Santa Monica Playhouse, Hudson Theatre, Whitefire Theatre, and many more. Regionally he has designed in Windsor, ON, West Virginia, Toronto, Pennsylvania, Los Angeles, and New York. David is currently baesed out of New York City and is designing off-Broadway, regionally, corporate events, restaurant consultations, weddings and anything he can get his hands on.

Ben Mathews (Musical Director)

Ben Mathews studied guitar at BYU-Idaho and earned a Master's degree in Jazz Guitar from Indiana University. He has performed, recorded and toured as a guitarist and bassist since 1998. He teaches music at BYU-Idaho and Utah State University. Love to Rochelle and the kids!
