Prospect Theater company presents RIFFNOTES: The Musical, an original musical revue starring the talented teens from Prospect Theater Company’s Summer Intensive Training Program. In RIFFNOTES, six quirky teens in a high school summer enrichment program go on a journey of personal discovery as they tackle classic books and re-imagine iconic stories through the lens of high school hijinks, social media, and even beloved Broadway musicals. RIFFNOTES includes musical spoofs of summer reading list favorites, including Pride & PrejudiceMacbethMoby Dick and more! This culminating showcase performance for Prospect’s Summer Intensive Program features an array of brand-new songs and ten-minute musicals by some of New York's most exciting emerging writers. Prospect's Summer Intensive Program is sponsored in part by The ASCAP Foundation Irving Caesar Fund.

Eric March

Eric March (Book/Music/Lyrics)

Eric March is a playwright, composer and lyricist. Recent credits: Christmas in Queens (EST/Youngblood Unfiltered) and Teacher from the Black Lagoon and Other Stories (Theatreworks USA). With Prospect: Destination: Everywhere and Souvenir Stories.  He is an alum of the BMI Workshop and a member of Youngblood, the Ensemble Studio Theatre’s group of emerging playwrights under 30.

Peter Mills

Peter Mills (Book/Music/Lyrics/Music Director)

Peter Mills is a composer/lyricist whose shows include Golden Boy of the Blue Ridge, The Pursuit of Persephone, and Illyria.He won the Cole Porter Award, the Kleban Prize, the Ebb Award, the Richard Rodgers Award, and a Jonathan Larson grant.  He is currently writing lyrics for a Broadway-aimed musical, The Honeymooners, with composer Stephen Weiner.

Tim O

Tim O'Leary (Book/Lyrics)

Tim O'Leary is a writer for, penning the weekly advice column Ask O’Leary.  For two years, he taught playwriting at the Harvey Milk High School.  He recently completed his first novel, a young adult fantasy adventure titled The Dream Seer.  In June, the Screen Actors Guild produced a staged reading of his television pilot, Wolf Island.

Jason Purdy

Jason Purdy (Book/Music/Lyrics)

Jason Purdy wrote book and lyrics for Enjoy the Ride as part of Prospect Theater Company’s Street Seen, music by Yan Li. Sweet Nothings (NYU Reading, music by Yan Li), Blood [By the Mummers] (NYMF 2011, music and lyrics), 10 Reasons I Won’t Go Home with You (2010 Midtown International Festival, additional music and lyrics, Winner: Best Music and Lyrics). His work has been performed at 54 Below, the Laurie Beechman, and Signature Theatre. MFA NYU GMTWP.

Jenny Stafford

Jenny Stafford (Book/Lyrics)

Jenny Stafford's work has been featured at The Lincoln Center Songbook SeriesThe Lyrics of Jennifer Stafford, Prospect Theater Company, 54 Below, Ars Nova, The Metropolitan Opera, Merkin Recital Hall, and Joe’s Pub, as well as productions in Chicago and across the country. Her show Prodigy (with Willem Oosthuysen) received numerous workshops and was a finalist at the Yale Institute for Music Theatre, and The Artist and the Scientist (with composer Brandon Anderson) is currently in development at CAP21.

Britt Bonney

Britt Bonney (Music/Lyrics)

Britt Bonney is a New York-based composer, music director, and vocal coach. Her arrangements and orchestrations have been heard throughout the city in such venues as Lincoln Center, 54 Below, and Broadway's Palace Theatre and Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre.  Britt is an alumna of the BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop and currently works as the assistant musical director at Rosie's Theater Kids.  B.A., Music: William & Mary; M.A., Music Education: Columbia University.

Yan Li

Yan Li (Music)

Yan Li is a composer, lyricist, music director, pianist, and arranger.  His work has been featured at West End Theatre, Signature Theatre, 54 Below, New York Theatre Barn, Goodspeed, the Puerto Rican Traveling Theater, the Duplex, and the Toronto Fringe Festival. Shows include Sweet Nothings and Enjoy the Ride (with Jason Purdy), Blind (with Julia Gytri), Misprint (with Lauren Toffan), and Left. Yan is an alum of NYU’s Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program. This summer, he’s going to learn to be a beekeeper. 

Daniel Maté

Daniel Maté (Music/Lyrics/Associate Music Director)

Daniel Maté is a Vancouver-born composer, lyricist and librettist based in Brooklyn.  He received the 2013 Kleban Prize for Musical Theatre Lyrics, and is a past recipient of the Jonathan Larson and Cole Porter Awards for his music and lyrics.  His musicals include The Trouble With Doug, The Longing and the Short of It, and Middle School Mysteries.  He has worked extensively with teens and young people on collaborative songwriting and musical theatre performance, and is excited to join the team for Prospect’s Summer Intensive! 

Willem Oosthuysen

Willem Oosthuysen (Music)

Willem Oosthuysen’s musicals include Prodigy, Cinderella, To Have and To Hold, The Chameleon and the Bee (book/lyrics by Jenny Stafford), The Tragic Tale of Mummy Boy (book/lyrics by Bill Nelson), Pandora’s Paintbox (book/lyrics by Alana Jacoby) and A Visit to Baba Yaga (libretto by Chandra McLelland). Works performed at NYU, Indiana University, Two Rivers Theatre Company, Prospect Theater, and Lincoln Center. Willem holds an MFA from NYU and is a member of the BMI Workshop (advanced) and the Dramatist Guild

Dev Bondarin (Director/Curator)

Dev Bondarin is the Associate Artistic Director of Prospect Theater Company, where she curates and directs the annual musical theater lab, which has produced over 45 new, short musicals by established and emerging writers and has curated and directed for the Teen Intensive for four years. Also: King Lear (American Bard Theater Company, 2 NY Innovative Theater Award nominations), Reefer Madness (Gallery Players, NY IT Award nomination for Outstanding Musical), A Home Across the Ocean (MTWorks), Raised By Lesbians (FringeNYC). Member: Lincoln Center Directors Lab. Associate Member: SDC & the League of Professional Theatre Women.

Simone Zamore Curbelo (Choreographer, Director of Education)

A graduate of Princeton University (B.A. English, Dramatic Literature, minors in Theater, Modern Dance, and Vocal Performance) and Harvard Graduate School of Education (Ed.M, Arts in Education), Simone is a professional singer, dancer, and actor; she has trained, both recreationally and competitively, in jazz, tap, ballet, modern, lyrical, musical theater, contemporary, and hip hop. An Equity performer, she was featured as a Principal Dancer in Sophisticated Ladies (Inside Broadway), numerous regional tours and Off-Broadway performances, and performed with Prospect for over 10 years, including Taxi Cabaret, The Flood, DIDO (& Aeneas), Evergreen, and The Rockae.

Cara Reichel (Producing Artistic Director/Curator)

Cara Reichel is a founding member of Prospect Theater Company. Recent Prospect productions as director include: Death for Five Voices, Iron Curtain, I  Married Wyatt Earp, Once Upon a Time in New Jersey, Illyria,and Honor. Cara is a member of the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society, and the League of  Professional Theatre Women.

Sara Stevens (Assistant Director)

Directing credits include: the Young Playwrights Festival at the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center, Midtown International Theater Festival, STAGEFest, Mount Carmel Theatre Company, and Manhattan Rep. She graduated from Ithaca College last year where she directed a concert version of Next to NormalThe Dream of the Burning Boy, and Almost, Maine. Last summer she produced/directed an outdoor production of Hair in Ithaca. Recent credits: Production Assistant for Prospect’s Jasper in Deadland and an Assistant Stage Manager for Off-Broadway's The Clearing. Proud NTI alumni.
