NYMF’s second annual “Broadway Battle of the Bands”, a one-night only “Broadway Bandapalooza” competition, features performers, whose roots are onstage and in the orchestra pits of several Broadway musicals – coming together for a special concert at The Zipper Factory, 336 West 37th Street in Manhattan, Saturday, May 17 at 10:30!

NYMF 2007's The Last Starfighter, Fred Landau and Walter Edgar Kennon's sci-fi musical, will be seen in the upcoming Village Theatre's First Stage Season as part of its Spring Village Originals Workshop. The Village Theatre is located in Issaquah, WA,in Washington; the production will be presented on May 23-25.
Broadway – Here They Come!

The hit of the innaugural New York Musical Theatre Festival, [title of show] will officially open at Broadway's Lyceum Theatre on July 16. The production will re-unite the original NYMF cast (who also played the roles off-Broadway): Jeff Bowen, Hunter Bell, Susan Blackwell, Heidi Blickenstaff, and musical director Larry Pressgrove (writer of Angle of the Sun, NYMF 2007). Direction and choreography will again be by Michael Berresse.

Next to Normal, the Tom Kitt-Brian Yorkey musical that started as Feeling Electric in the 2005 New York Musical Theatre Festival, and recently played an extended engagement at Off-Broadway's Second Stage, will be part of the 2008-2009 season at Arena Stage in Arlington, Virginia.

NYMF 2007 Alum and winner of multiple 2007 NYMF Awards for Excellence, The Boy in the Bathroom, has been selected for ASCAP/Disney Musical Workshop. The reading will be held on Tuesday March 18 at 7pm.

NYMF is proud to present a series of staged readings of 2007 Richard Rodgers Award winner MAIN-TRAVELLED ROADS by David Hudson and Paul Libman, featuring Stacie Bono, Alison Cimmet, Joseph Mahowald and Tally Sessions. The seven free presentations will run at the TBG Theatre from March 21 through March 29.

Open Submissions are now being accepted through March 1 for the 2008 Next Link Project, NYMF's writer service program for the world's emerging musical theatre talent. The authors of musicals accepted into this program are nurtured throughout the year by a variety of resources, including one-on-one professional dramaturgical support, a weekend-long seminar of panels and producer networking events and a subsidized production slot in The 2008 New York Musical Theatre Festival.

Sherlock Holmes (the early years) will be the 2007 recipient of the Theater for the American Musical Award. The award will be presented with the previously announced NYMF Awards for Excellence at the 2007 NYMF Awards Gala on November 4 at the Hudson Theatre. Duncan Sheik, Tony Award winning composer of Spring Awakening will perform along with Jackie Hoffman and Mary Testa of Xanadu.

The Talkin' Broadway 2007 Summer Theatre Festival Citations were recently announced and productions from The New York Musical Theatre Festival received 12 out of the 19 awarded. One of eight theatrical organizations eligible, NYMF received more awards than any other summer festival.

George Psomas Named NYMF Broadway Idol 2007

Last Friday, October 5, George Psomas was named "Broadway Idol 2007" winning the three week competition held at Stitch Bar & Lounge. In addition to the title of this year's NYMF Broadway Idol, Psomas will receive a solo concert to be produced by Ars Nova.

The Beastly Bombing, opening October 2nd at the 2007 New York Musical Theatre Festival won the 2007 LA Weekly Theater Award for Musical of the Year. The NYMF Production marks its New York City premiere. Nerds://A Musical Software Satire also recently won two Barrymore awards for its winter production at Philadelphia Theatre Company.

BROADWAY IDOL Kicks Off Friday

After playing to SRO crowds last year, Broadway Idol, The New York Musical Theatre Festival's scintillating showtune flavored answer to American Idol, returns Friday for its second season over three consecutive Friday evenings at 10pm at Stitch Bar and Lounge (247 West 37th Street). Produced by NYMF, ten aspiring stars will battle for the coveted crown and their very own concert venued at and produced by Ars Nova. Broadway veteran Andrea McArdle—known and adored by many as Broadway's original Annie —will host of this year's competition.

The final concert in the New York Musical Theatre Festival Spring Benefit Concert Series will be Undercover Showtunes on Monday, June 18 at 7pm at the Zipper Factory (37th Street between 8th and 9th Avenues). Stars scheduled to appear include Christian Campbell (Reefer Madness, ABC's All My Children), Mary Faber (Avenue Q), Manoel Felciano (Sweeney Todd), and Gloria Reuben (NBC's ER).

"More Unauthorized Musicology of Ben Folds", the first in a series of concerts by the New York Musical Theatre Festival, will take place Monday, March 26 at the Zipper Theatre, 7pm. Broadway and Off-Broadway's best take on the songs of pop sensation Ben Folds, whose offbeat cast of characters, biting lyrics and virtuosic melodies have rocked and touched the music world for over a decade.

The New York Musical Theatre Festival has announced its first-ever Spring Concert series, featuring 4 different shows from March through June – beginning with "More Unauthorized Musicology of Ben Folds" on Monday, March 26 at the Zipper Theatre (336 West 37th Street). Jaclyn Huberman, the first-ever winner of NYMF’s 2006 "Broadway Idol" will perform an evening of songs on May 8 and 13 at Ars Nova Theatre (511 W. 54th Street). Kicking off the Next Link Launch Weekend is the "Broadway Battle of the Bands" on Friday, May 18 (at a location tba), and "Undercover Showtunes" in mid June at The Zipper Theatre.
