Next Step for Next to Normal

Next to Normal, the Tom Kitt-Brian Yorkey musical that started as Feeling Electric in the 2005 New York Musical Theatre Festival, and recently played an extended engagement at Off-Broadway's Second Stage, will be part of the 2008-2009 season at Arena Stage in Arlington, Virginia.

Next to Normal is a dark pop/rock musical that tells the story of a family coming to grips with a secret and how they deal with it in a world where drugs and therapy seem to be the answer for every problem. The Second Stage production was recently nominated for three Lortel Awards including Outstanding Musical.
The 2005 Festival cast included Joe Cassidy, Amy Spanger, Benjamin Schrader, Annaleight Ashford, and Anthony Rapp, who was Michael Greif’s assistant director at Second Stage. Greif will be directing the Arena Stage production as well.
