George Psomas Named NYMF Broadway Idol 2007

Last Friday, October 5, George Psomas was named "Broadway Idol 2007" winning the three week competition held at Stitch Bar & Lounge. In addition to the title of this year's NYMF Broadway Idol, Psomas will receive a solo concert to be produced by Ars Nova.

Beating out finalists Isabel Santiago and Auri Marcus, George Psomas sang "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes" from Roberta as his song from a Broadway show pre-Oklahoma, and "Being Alive" from Company for his choice from a show post-Hair. All three contestants were advised by the celebrity judges Manoel Felciano, Stephanie D'Abruzzo, and Lonny Price before the audience voted via Verizon Wireless text messaging. After thousands of votes by the end of the night, Psomas was named the winner
A native of Wyckoff, NJ, Psomas is a 2005 graduate of Muhlenberg College with a double major in Theatre and Business. His regional credits include: Godspell (Judas), Once Upon A Time in New Jersey (Rocco), Made in America: Irving Berlin (Juan), and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (Levi).
Presented over the three Friday evenings of NYMF 2007, Broadway Idol was held at Stitch Barn and Lounge (247 W. 37th Street). A part of the NYMF @ Nite Party Series, Broadway Idol's second year was attended by hundreds. The date and further details on Psomas's solo concert at Ars Nova will be announced at a future time.
