After playing to SRO crowds last year, Broadway Idol, The New York Musical Theatre Festival's scintillating showtune flavored answer to American Idol, returns Friday for its second season over three consecutive Friday evenings at 10pm at Stitch Bar and Lounge (247 West 37th Street). Produced by NYMF, ten aspiring stars will battle for the coveted crown and their very own concert venued at and produced by Ars Nova. Broadway veteran Andrea McArdle—known and adored by many as Broadway's original Annie —will host of this year's competition.

As part of the NYMF @ Nite party series, the Broadway Idol competition will take place September 21, September 28, and October 5 at 10pm. Contestants will be chosen to advance in the competition by audience member voting through Verizon wireless text messaging immediately at the conclusion of each performance round. Assisting the voting public with their expert opinions will be celebrity judges Anthony Rapp (Rent, You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown), Mac Shaiman (composer/lyricist Hairspray), Jose Llana (The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee), Mandy Gonzaelz (Aida), Lonny Price (director, 110 in the Shade), Manoel Felciano (Sweeny Todd), and Stephanie D'Abruzzo (Avenue Q).
Hosted by Andrea McArdle, the competition will feature the ten contestants chosen from open audition held earlier this month: Laura Daniel, Nick Dothèe, Henry Gainza, Gabrielle Maes, Auri Marcus, DeMond B. Nason, Stephanie Pitsiladis, George Psomas, Isabel Santiago, and Alysha Umphress. These 10 IDOL contestants were chosen from open auditions held earlier this month in New York.
Directed by Jess McLeod with Christopher D. Littlefield as Musical director, each weekly round will feature songs along a theme: September 21 will be "My Favorite Things" where contestants sing their favorite Broadway show tunes; September 28 will be "Broadway Rocks!" with contestants singing a rock song from a Broadway show; October 5 will be "Star to Be" with the remaining contestants singing one song from a Broaway show pre-Oklahoma, and one song from a Broadway show post-Hair.
