As prescriptions for teens are written and filled, to treat everything from attention deficit to depression,  NYMF brings you two shows with a focus on characters who have more to battle than simply the angst of high school and college.  These quirky characters and their equally all-too-familiar struggles also have some great musical theatre sounds!

In The Boy in the Bathroom, David struggles with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD).  He never leaves the bathroom, not to eat, not to see the sun, not even when his mother has an accident.  But when he meets (well, through the door) Julie who is caring for his mother.  He must face his disorder, and the idea of the world beyond the bathroom.

Adam's world is just the opposite from David's.  In The Yellow Wood, Adam confronts his Korean heritage, his Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), and don't forget his school work!  His world explodes in a kaliediscopic journey while trying to memorize that famous Robert Frost poem, "The Road Less Traveled."

Pushing the boundaries of subject matter along with musical idioms, these two works take a look at intimate and personal struggles of their main characters.  Be sure to check out The Yellow Wood and The Boy in the Bathroom if you're looking for your musical theatre with a small dose of the off-beat!
