Blending music, dance, theatre, and comedy, Freshly Tossed features artists who take an innovative and exciting approach towards musical theatre. Curators Wendy Seyb and Mark Lonergan have brought together an outstanding group of artists who blend music and comedy in intriguing and surprising new ways.

Wendy Seyb (Walmartopia, School Daze, But I’m A Cheerleader) presents two excerpts from her repertoire, including her latest work, FAITH, which was a smash at DanceBreak 2008, and DRUNKEN FANTASY, an excerpt from School Daze.

Mark Lonergan (CUT TO THE CHASE, THIS WAY THAT WAY) presents two new excerpts from his company Parallel Exit’s tap comedy TIME STEP, featuring performers and co-creators Ryan Kasprzak, Brent McBeth, and Derek Roland.

Choreographer Ray Hesselink (Billy Elliot, Imagine Tap) presents a work of brand new choreography; and performer Chris Allison, one of America’s leading professional clowns, presents a classic act, "Chris and His Big Balls."

Wendy Seyb
Wendy Seyb (Executive Producer / Co Curator)

Ms. Seyb makes herself home in both worlds of theater and dance with her award-winning dance comedies, and Off-Broadway musicals and plays. She is a recipient of a Golden Nose Award for her dance comedy piece SUPER NOVAS, a collaboration with Kathryn Fraggos and renowned clown Mark Gindick. Ms. Seyb is also a nominee of a 2007 New York Innovative Theatre Award for Outstanding Choreography/Movement for her work in the physical play THE GREAT CONJURER. Mark Lonergan
Mark Lonergan (Executive Producer / Co-Curator)

Mark is a New York-based director/creator, and the Artistic Director of Parallel Exit, a 2008 Drama Desk Award nominee for Unique Theatrical Experience. With Parallel Exit, he has created seven original works of physical theatre and received several grants and awards. Mark's work has been seen in Canada, the United States, Europe, and Asia, at festivals such as the COS Festival in Spain, the We Love Dance Festival in Japan, the Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival in the United States, and The Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland (Awarded: Spirit of the Fringe). In New York City, he has presented work at 59E59 Theaters, the Duke on 42nd Street, Symphony Space, the Guggenheim Museum, Ars Nova, and PS 122. Katie Adams
Katie Adams (Producer)

is a freelance producer and publicist. Katie has produced several productions at Brooklyn's off-off Broadway theatre, The Gallery Players, including Urinetown (a 2007 NYIT winner for Outstanding Production of a Musical), Take Me Out, the first New York City revival of The Full Monty, and their upcoming production of The Who's Tommy. Other productions include a co-production of Conor McPherson's The Good Thief with Prospect Street Productions. As an English/Theatre major at Barnard College, Katie produced and choreographed several showcases for Columbia University's student-run dance group, Orchesis. She now works at Richard Frankel Productions.

 
Josh Blye
Josh Blye (Associate Producer)

is a true Native New Yorker, having grown up in Manhattan and the surrounding areas. Josh graduated from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts in 2006 with a Bachelor in Fine Arts Degree in Drama, and now works full time for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, helping to produce some of their major annual events like the Easter Bonnet and Gypsy of the Year Competitions and Broadway Bares. Josh is also a performer, and some of those credits include: Abraham in Altar Boyz, Napthali in Joseph..., Paul/Bobby/Zach/Greg (u/s) in A Chorus Line, Freddy Eynsford-Hill in My Fair Lady, and he also recently participated in a workshop of a new rock musical titled A Separate Peace, based on the novel of the same name.

Olivia O'Brien (Assistant Stage Manager)

regularly stage manages for Parallel Exit and has worked on productions of This Way, That Way, Cut to the Chase, and will be joining the team once again this fall for Time Step. Olivia has worked as Company Manager for Camp Broadway and Flamenco Vivo and stage managed for several off-Broadway, regional, and summerstock companies.

 
Chris  Allison
Chris Allison (Clown)

At the age of 12, Chris Allison took a trip to the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus that would change his life forever. Leaving the circus wide eyed and in a sugar induced daze, Chris decided then that he would grow up and become a clown with the Greatest Show On Earth®. After graduating from the RBBB Clown College with a major in pie throwing and a minor in pratfalls, Chris spent the next eleven years touring with the circus, the final three years as the Boss Clown. Since leaving the show Chris has toured all across the United States as well as internationally including performances in Hong Kong, Mainland China, Sweden, and Finland.

If you are saying "Hey that clown looks familiar..." maybe that's because you saw him on MTV's Road Rules, MTV'S ODDVILLE, Natalie Merchants music video for her hit song "Kind and Generous", Oprah, The Today Show, Emeril Live, Comedy Centrals Strangers with Candy and most recently The Late Show with David Letterman.

Chris was the recipient of the 2008 New York Downtown Clown's Golden Nose Award for "Audience Choice Best Clown".

 
Ray Hesselink
Ray Hesselink (Choregrapher, "Elegant Burritos" & "Get Me to the Church on Time")

is a director and choreographer specializing in comedic storytelling. Ray is currently working with the creative team of the upcoming Broadway show, Billy Elliot: The Musical as a Tap Trainer and Consultant. As a performer, Ray's favorite performances include originating the role of "Bud" in Batboy: The Musical and a recurring role on USA'S Up All Night with Rhonda Shear. As a dancer, Ray created the role of Mr. Happy in Derick Grant's Imagine Tap! Ray has also been featured as a principal dancer in Nayikas, a classical Indian Dance Company.

Ray choreographed for many venues including Symphony Space, Yale Drama School, The Duke Theater and others. Ray dubbed the tap sounds to the Dancing Elephant in the G.E. Adam Kuchler (Clown)

Originally from Milwaukee, Adam has been performing around the
world in circuses and theaters for the last 13 years. He appears courtesy
of the Bindlestiff Family Cirkus, where he is trying to get a real clown
into the White House.

 
Matt Williams
Matt Williams (Choreographer, WARD 9)

In 2007, Matt received the NYMF Award for Best choreography for his work in Platforms starring Ted Levy (Jelly's Last Jam) and Deborah Yates (Contact). Matt is the resident choreographer for the New England Tour of Circus Smirkus. Matt is also a resident co-producer for the Broadway choreographic showcase, Dancebreak, in which he was also a choreographer in 2004. In 2006, Matt's choreography debuted at the Tony-Award winning Alley Theatre in Scott Schwartz's production of Much Ado About Nothing.

On Broadway, Matt interned for and assisted Jerry Mitchell on the revival of Gypsy. Matt's choreography has also appeared at Lincoln Center, Irish Reparatory Theatre, La Mama, The Rubicon Theatre, and the Stamford Center for the Arts. Matt's is currently re-staging his choreography for the MetroStage and Geva Theatre productions of Paul Scott Goodman's Rooms (NYMF '05), directed by Scott Schwartz, and starring Natascia Diaz and Doug Kreeger. Matt also holds the title of "Big Piano Choreographer" at FAO Schwarz Toy Store in New York City where he continually recreates and reinvents the world famous piano dancing scene from the hit film, Big. Jason Babinsky (Performer, Wendy Seyb)

Some recent credits include: She Loves Me (Williamstown Theater Festival and Huntington Theater), Bomb-itty of Errors (Syracuse Stage, Adirondack Theater Festival, and St. Louis Repertory Theater where he won the Kevin Kline for Best Actor in a Play), and Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (TUTS, TOTS, NSMT, and Paper Mill Playhouse) Jason's greatest accomplishment to date is returning from Africa where he married his girlfriend of the last ten years. He owes her the world and thanks her for everything.

Kathryn Fraggos
Kathryn Fraggos (Performer, Wendy Seyb)

Kathryn recently performed in Lincoln Center's "Camelot", directed by Lonny Price. She is a member of Taye Diggs' and Andrew Palermo's NYC-based company, dre.dance. She has a B.F.A in Dance from Point Park University. Some of her other credits include: "Music Man" (Kansas City Starlight); "The Pajama Game" (Arizona Theatre Company);featured dancer in Julie Taymor's film, 'Across the Universe;' DanceBreak '07 and '08; the DORK in Wendy Seyb's 'School Daze' (NYMF '06); the CAT in Lincoln Center's production of 'Peter and the Wolf'; and an improvisational character actress at NYC's Jekyll and Hyde Club. She is very excited to be performing once again in FRESHLY TOSSED!

Brant Michaels
Brant Michaels (Performer, Wendy Seyb)

Brant enjoyed a New York City summer and being part of a giant caterpillar in Broadway Bares 18: Wonderland. He also was seen wearing even less clothing last summer in Jerry Mitchell's Broadway Bares 17: Myth Behavior. Brant has traveled internationally playing the role of Baby John in the European tour of "West Side Story" as well as across the states in the first national tour of "The Music Man". Recent credits include being a part of the "365 days, 365 plays" festival at the Public Theater, playing one of the three proteans in "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum" at Sacramento Music Circus, Mungojerrie in Northern Stage's "Cats", NCT's "The Music Man" starring Tom Wopat, broadway choreographer A.C. Ciulla's "Nights on Broadway III", and off-Broadway while he was a company member of American Dance Company. He sends much love and appreciation to Irma Ziegler, Caroline Worth-Tyrrell, Stephen Harding, his parents and sister, Dara.

 
Tracey Petrillo
Tracey Petrillo (Performer, Wendy Seyb)

Tracey comes to us straight from the First National tour of High School Musical. She was seen last year at NYMF in the Rockae, and Freshly Tossed (Catch) where she played a crazy homeless person. She was also seen at NYMF in 2006 playing the Snob in Wendy Seyb's School Daze. She hates writing bios in 3rd person but loves that someone reads them.

 
Mark Roland
Mark Roland (Performer, Wendy Seyb)

Originally from Rochester, NY, he attended Point Park University as a dance major. Mark last was seen at Cape Playhouse, in the regional theater premiere of "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels", choreographed by Denis Jones. Other theater credits include: "All Shook Up"(Merry-Go-Round Playhouse), "White Christmas"(Denver Center Theater), "Jesus Christ Superstar"(North Carolina Theatre)," Li'l Abner"(Goodspeed Opera House). Mark is thrilled to be a part of Freshly Tossed.

 
Cody Smith
Cody Smith (Peformer, Wendy Seyb)

Cody D. Smith is glad to be performing for Wendy again. Cody was a cast member in last year's Freshly Tossed. He also performed in School Daze for the NYMF. He assisted Ms. Seyb in Walmartopia last year off-broadway. Other New York credits: Radio City Christmas Spectacular, ABC Daytime Salutes B'way. Melinda Sullivan
Melinda Sullivan (Performer, Wendy Seyb)

Melinda Sullivan has just finished touring as an original cast member of Disney's High School Musical. Her theatre credits are 25th Anniversary Tour of CATS, Atlanta TOTS, Pittsburgh CLO, and numerous Town Hall Broadway By the Year performances. Melinda is a company member of Emmy-award winner Jason Samuels Smith's tap company, Anybody Can Get It (ACGI), with recent performances including the NY City Center's Fall For Dance and at the Sadler's Wells Theatre in London. Her other company work includes the Jazz Tap Ensemble, Chloe Arnold's Syncopated Ladies, and Noah Racey's New York Tap Ensemble. Melinda is a recipient of the Los Angeles Music Center Spotlight Award in Non-Classical dance for her solo performance at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. In television and film, her tap dancing has been seen on Star Search, One on One, and the acclaimed short film Tap Heat, choreographed by Danny Daniels. Upcoming projects: High School Musical 2 onstage, The Underlings (pilot).

 
Ryan Kasprzak
Ryan Kasprzak (Performer, Parallel Exit)

Ryan has teamed with Parallel Exit for several recent productions including CUT TO THE CHASE, a 2008 Drama Desk nominee for Unique Theatrical Experience. Ryan appeared with Tony Award winner Sutton Foster in Broadway Under the Stars recorded live in Central Park for CBS television. He was recently nominated for a New York Innovative Theater Award for Outstanding Choreography and performed as a soloist at the historic West Virginia Dance Festival. He has served as dance captain and soloist for the National and International companies of Fosse and has been honored to perform with such legendary entertainers as Liza Minelli, Ann Reinking, Ben Vereen, Gregory Hines, Jimmy Slyde, and the Nicholas Brothers. Brent McBeth
Brent McBeth (Performer, Parallel Exit)

Brent McBeth is a proud member of Actor's Equity. After completing a B.F.A. in Musical Theater from Sam Houston State University, Brent toured internationally in Fosse, starring Ben Vereen and Ruthie Henshall. Recent credits include: No, No, Nanette and Face The Music (City Center Encores); Cabaret (Emcee, New Hampshire Theater Award); Guys and Dolls (Harry the Horse); Irving Berlin's White Christmas (Cast Recording and Tour).

 
Derek Roland
Derek Roland (Performer, Parallel Exit)

Derek began his dance training at Clark Academy of Performing Arts in Rochester and Buffalo, where he took master classes from such tap greats as Savion Glover, Ted Levy, and Van "The Man" Porter. He received a B.F.A. in Theatre Performance from Niagara University, and his credits include National Tours of Kiss Me Kate (Bill Calhoun), Showboat, Cinderella, and Funny Girl, as well as the Italian Tour of West Side Story. New York credits include New York Fringe Festival, American Theater of Actors, York Theater, Actors' Playground, and Merkin Concert Hall. Derek continues to study tap with teachers such as Barbara Duffy, Randy Skinner, Roxane Butterfly, Max Pollack, and Jason Samuels Smith, and he regularly attends tap jams in New York. He has taught at Broadway Dance Center and STEPS, as well as master classes at universities and studios across the United States. He is currently creating a tap show with Parallel Exit called TIME STEP and is on faculty at New Dance Group

 
Timothy J. Alex
Timothy J. Alex (Performer, Ray Hesselink)

Most recently on Broadway, Tim was an original cast member of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, performing the Tony Award-winning role of Freddie Benson opposite Jonathan Pryce. Other Broadway credits include Never Gonna Dance (Dice Raymond), Man of La Mancha (Tenorio), Sweet Smell of Success, Thou Shalt Not, Titanic (Frederick Fleet), and Chicago (Judge). Regional credits: Pirates of Penzance, Pippin, Stairway to Paradise and Pardon My English. Timothy gives thanks for his talents, creativity, and drive to his late mother, Marilyn Alex. KTILU!

Andrew Black: has performed from the stage of Carnegie Hall to the streets
of Tokyo's DisneySea. Credits include: 42nd Street (1st National), White Christmas, and thanx to Ray this is Andrew's second year doing Freshly Tossed at NYMF.

 
Mary Giattino
Mary Giattino (Performer, Ray Hesselink)

Is happy to be back in Freshly Tossed and dancing in Ray’s piece again this

Drew Humphrey
Drew Humphrey (Performer, Ray Hesselink)

Drew Humphrey is pleased to be appearing in the NYMF. He has appeared in 42nd
St (1st Natl. Tour), White Christmas (Boston, Detroit, San Francisco), Of Thee
I Sing (City Center Encores!), and most recently performed in the Premiere of
An American in Paris (Alley Theatre). He has also appeared in productions at
North Shore Music Theatre, The Muny, Stages St. Louis, and KC Starlight. He
would like to thank Ray for this opportunity.

 
Matt Loehr
Matt Loehr (Performer, Ray Hesselink)

Matt Loehr is currently in Mary Poppins on Broadway (original cast) where he
plays the role of Northbrook nightly and has been on for the role of Bert at
several performances. Other Broadway credits include the original casts of The
Producers and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, as well as Movin’ Out, and Fosse. Next
project: the world premiere of Minsky’s directed by Casey Nicholaw and written
by Bob Martin, Charles Strouse, and Susan Birkenhead.

 
Emily Morgan
Emily Morgan (Performer, Ray Hesselink)

Emily is thrilled to be working with Ray again as his traffic director, having
served that position in last year's Freshly Tossed. Recent projects include
Girl's Night, the Musical, Associate Choreographer (Cleveland Playhouse), Pure
Heaven, Assistant Choreographer (Emelin Theatre). Next: Irving Berlin's White

Tia Zorne is thrilled to be performing the creative choreography of Ray Hesselink as the tardy, yet klutzy, bride. Previously, she has been seen fainting as a Silly Girl in Broadway's Beauty and the Beast, roller skating as Dinah in Starlight Express, crawling through Cats and diving from a trapeze bar in an MGM stunt show. She has also flipped with coach Bela Karolyi. This performance is dedicated to brides who never made it to the alter for whatever reason!

 
Matt  Baker
Matt Baker (Performer, Matt Williams)

This will be Matt's his second foray into the NYMF. Last year he was seen as the fight double for the renegade Jesus clone super-soldier in JC2K (YouTube it!). He has also toured internationally with Cirque du Soleil's Quidam as The Target and appears on the video release. His New York credits include A Christmas Carol at Madison Square Garden (the Tumbling Granny), Radio City, New York City Opera, The Met, and Off B-way in Funny Feet. Regionally he has performed at The Kennedy Center (Carnival! '07), Goodspeed, The Ford's, The Alliance, TUTS, Great Lakes, and the North Shore. Films; The Producers, Nanny Diaries, and Wigstock the Movie (back up dancer for Lipsynka). His favorite roles are White Faced Clown in Barnum and Protean in Forum. Matt also has developed an act for aerial straps.

 
Alexander  Brady
Alexander Brady (Performer, Matt Williams)

Alexander trained with the Boston School of Ballet and the School of American Ballet. He was a member of the Joffrey Ballet, Miami City Ballet, and Twyla Tharp Dance. Mr. Brady was part of the original Broadway cast of Movin' Out as well as The Times They Are A Changin' both choreographed and directed by Tharp. He has also danced with the Metropolitan Opera Ballet, Dances Patrelle, and most recently, with the Mark Morris Dance Group in Romeo and Juliet. Film credits include Across the Universe and Julie and Julia.

 
Kate Chadwick
Kate Chadwick (Performer, Matt Williams)

Kate just recently moved to New York from Southern California and is so excited to be a part of this show! Thank you to Matt and everyone involved with Ward 9! Regional roles include: Eliza in My Fair Lady, Marian Peroo in The Music Man, Sarah Brown in Guys and Dolls, Maria in The Sound of Music, Fiona in Brigadoon, and Dot in Sunday in the Park with George. She graduated from the University of California, Irvine (magna c. laude '01) and holds a post-graduate degree in acting from the Oxford School of Drama. David  Guggino
David Guggino (Performer, Matt Williams)

David recently danced in West Side Story at the Tuts Theater in Houston, in Damn Yankees at the North Shore Music Theater in Boston and in Grease at the Starlight Theater in Kansas City. He has danced for the Jeffrey Ensemble. As a member of Momix, he performed at the Joyce Theater and toured nationally and internationally. He has worked with Eglesky Ballet and Rebecca Kelly Ballet. He has recently performed with the Chase Brock Experience at the Fire Island Dance Festival, Gypsy of the Year, and at Dance New Amsterdam. He choreographed West Side Story for the Westhill School and also choreographed and produced an original piece, "Sid in the City" at the New Dance Group in New York City. He also choreographed We Were Always Coming Back, a new rock ballet for CW Post's spring concert at Symphony Space. In September he will perform a new work at the CW Post faculty concert. Dave holds a BFA in Dance from Joffrey Ballet School/New School University.

 
Kelly Jacobs
Kelly Jacobs (Performer, Matt Williams)

Kelly is thrilled to channel the essence and artistry of Sylvia Plath through this innovative new work! A native of WI with a degree in psychology from UW-Madison, Kelly has danced in the Christmas Spectacular at Radio City Music Hall for the last five years. Past credits include Mame (Kennedy Center), The Producers (Pioneer Theater), Tommy (PCLO), Camelot (Atlanta TOTS tour), Cats (Marriott Theatre Lincolnshire), Fame (Switzerland) and Tokyo Disney Sea. Her favorite job this year was touring the Hawaiian Islands while performing on NCL's Pride of America with her husband, Adam. Proud member of Actors Equity. Thanks to my supportive family, Adam, Matt and Mark for this wonderful opportunity!

 
Travis Magee
Travis Magee (Performer, Matt Williams)

Travis received his BFA in Dance from the Boston Conservatory where he was privileged to work with such greats as Yuriko, Murray Louis, Luis Fuente and Jennifer Scanlon. Regional credits include Swing! The Musical at the Country Playhouse and Thoroughly Modern Millie at the Arvada Center. Travis will also be appearing in the upcoming film Clear Blue Tuesday with choreography by Chase Brock. In NYC he is a guest dancer with the Metropolitan Opera and will be returning in November to work on Mark Morris' Orfeo ed Euridice and Daniel Pelzig's La Sonnambula. Travis is a proud member of AEA and AGMA.

 
Ashley Anne Russ
Ashley Anne Russ (Performer, Matt Williams)

"Annie" is thrilled to be making her NYMF debut in WARD 9. A native of Chicago, she trained at Gus Giordano and was a member of Northstage Theater Company. Upon moving to the east coast, she attended the S.U.N.Y Purchase Conservatory and has since then received extensive training in dance, theater and voice all over New York City. She was a founding member of House of the Roses Dance Company under the direction of Jeff Shade, doing the ordinary with extraordinary love. Most recently, she assisted director/choreographer Scott Thompson with Broadway Ballroom for Princess Cruise Line. Theatrical credits include: Jack Frost (Jack), Cats (Bombalurina), Sweet Charity (Rosie), Christopher (Lady in Waiting), Oklahoma! (Dream Laurey), Cabaret (Fritzie), Bye Bye Birdie (Sad Girl), You're A Good Man Charlie Brown (Lucy), The Unsinkable Molly Brown (Tango Dancer), Showboat. Off-Broadway: The Tempest (American Globe), Clara's Christmas Dreams (Stage Right Prod.) and The Devil Is An Ass. She thanks God for all the blessings in her life (PHIL 4:13).

 
Michael Scirrotto
Michael Scirrotto (Performer, Matt Williams)

Michael holds a B.F.A. in Musical Theater from New World School of The Arts in Miami, Fl. He recently made his New York debut, performing with the New York Philharmonic in the production of Camelot at Lincoln Center. Other past credits include: A Chorus Line, Cats, and Tokyo Disney. He is thrilled to be a part of WARD 9, and hopes it will receive the praise it deserves. Proud member of Equity.
