Walsh, Myers and Zimmerman Will Star in Much Ado Musical About Face at NYMF

About Face, the new 1950s college-set musical suggested by Shakespeare'sMuch Ado About Nothing, playing the New York Musical Theatre Festival, will feature Barbara Walsh and Pamela Myers, veterans of different productions of Broadway's Company.

Performances of the new musical comedy, with book and lyrics by David Arthur and music by Jeffrey Lodin, will play 37 Arts Theater C Sept. 17-24.

"Set in 1955 amid the sexually charged hijinks of Whittney College, this rollicking, romantic comedy finds Coach Benedick and English Literature Professor Beatrice Stanton waging their 'merry war of wits,'" according to production notes. "Love, laughter and a little mischief are on a spree in this high-flying, heartwarming musical that puts the comedy back in musical comedy!"

Nick Corley directs, Mary MacLeod choreographs, Dave Pepin is music director, and Kim Vasquez is producing consultant.

About Face was developed in the Tony-honored BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop and won the Jerry Harrington Award (David Arthur), the Spirit of Broadway Award (Jeffrey Lodin) and The Global Search For New Musicals (Cardiff, Wales).

Myers, who plays Mae Francis, created the role of Marta in Broadway'sCompany. She introduced "Another Hundred People."

Walsh, who plays Beatrice, is a 2007 Drama Desk nominee for Company and a Tony nominee for Falsettos. Her credits include Hairspray, Big, Blood Brothers, Nine, Rock 'n' Roll: The First 5,000 years and Ragtime (Mother in the Chicago company).

Mark Zimmerman will play Bill Benedick. His credits include A Catered Affair, The Rainmaker, Shenandoah, On the 20th Century, Brigadoon and Face Valueand the first national tours of Mamma Mia! and Kiss of the Spider Woman.

The cast also includes Aubrey Sinn, Nick Mannix, Rebecca Weiner, Mark Christine, Kyle G. Bailey, Katie Gassert, Sean David, Elizabeth Rajasekhar, Andrew DiConcetto and Jacey Powers.

Arthur (book and lyrics) is a graduate of The Goodman/DePaul Theatre School, and a long-standing member of the BMI Lehman Engel Workshop. With Brian Lasser, he contributed material to the MAC Award-winning revue, Here's to Our Friends. For the concert stage he has written for Randy Graff, Judy Kuhn, Karen Mason, Marin Mazzie, Donna Murphy, Barbara Walsh and Julie Andrews. He most recently completed the music, lyrics and book for Saratoga Trunk Songs, which was presented as part of Chicago Stages at The Theatre Building Chicago.

Lodin (music) composed the score for A Hundred Years Into the Years (lyrics by William Squier, book by Richard Vetere), which was presented in the inaugural NYMF in 2004, and went on to a production at the Spirit of Broadway Theatre, Norwich, CT. Other scores include Doug Live! (lyrics by William Squier, book by Squier, Lodin, Jim Jenkins and David Campell), which played Disneyworld MGM Studios and songs for Disney's "Doug's First Movie" and the cartoon "P.B. & J. Otter"; Young Abe Lincoln (book and lyrics by John Allen) written for Theatreworks USA (Promenade Theatre and U.S. tour);Rebels, 1775 (lyrics by Squier and John Allen, book by John Allen, Squier and Mana Allen), which had its world premiere at The Starlight Theatre in Rockford, IL and a production at The Spirit of Broadway Theatre; and Top of the Heap (book and lyrics by Squier), winner of the Global Search for New Musicals, Cardiff, Wales, which was presented as part of the New American Theatre Festival, "Voices in the Heartland," in Rockford, IL, and the Curtain Call Theatre in Stamford, CT. It was also winner of the 2007 NMTN Director's Choice Award, and seen as part of NYMF 2007 Developmental Readings series.

She earned her equity card at, what is now, Maine State Musical Theatre after graduating from the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music. She was nominated for a Tony Award in the original cast of COMPANY and will always be grateful to Stephen Sondheim for the gift of ANOTHER 100 PEOPLE. She has done TV, cabaret, concerts and loves teaching. Her highest accomplishment is raising a son who is now in graduate school for Art History.

David Arthur
David Arthur (Book and Lyrics)

A graduate of The Goodman/DePaul Theatre School, and a long standing member of the Lehman Engel BMI workshop, he is the recipient of the Jerry Harrington Award. In addition to writing the book and lyrics for ABOUT FACE, he along with late, great, Brian Lasser, contributed material to the MAC award winning revue, HERE'S TO OUR FRIENDS. For the concert stage he has written for Randy Graff, Judy Kuhn, Karen Mason, Marin Mazzie, Donna Murphy, Barbara Walsh and Miss Julie Andrews. David most recently completed the music, lyrics and book for SARATOGA TRUNK SONGS, which was presented as part of Chicago Stages at The Theatre Building Chicago. Productions he has directed and or choreographed include COMPLIMENTS OF COLE with Ann Jillian and Lois Nettleton, and IRMA LA DOUCE with Lesley Ann Warren. At the York Theatre he appeared in the Drama Desk Award winning revival of CARNIVAL!, as well as the National and European touring productions of BUBBLING BROWN SUGAR and PETER PAN. David made his Carnegie Hall debut as a featured performer with Skitch Henderson and the New York Pops, however, he has NEVER, NEVER appeared on LAW AND ORDER.

Has directed several world premiers including WOODY SEZ for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and recent European tour; the off-Broadway production's of TALL GRASS, FLIGHT (Callaway Award Nomination) and FABLES IN SLANG; THE CIVIL WAR (co-directed with Gregory Boyd at Houston's Alley Theatre); ELIOT NESS...IN CLEVELAND (also co-adaption at The Denver Theatre Center); A YOUNG LADY OF FASHION (also co-author at the historic Fulton Opera House); and the NY productions of TIM AND SCROOGE (NYMTF and Queens Theatre in the Park), THE OVERCOAT(Fringe Festival), TALLBOY WALKIN', and MOO-THE TWISTED TALE OF DINKY FARM. Other directing credits include THE BOMB-ITTY OF ERRORS (Adirondack Theater Festival and St. Louis Rep.); THE LITTLE FOXES (Fulton Opera House); Ned Rorem's FOUR DIALOGUES (Merkin Concert Hall); SHERLOCK'S LAST CASE (the Alley Theatre); and THE ROBBER BRIDEGROOM , BAT BOY, and an original musicalized adaptation of SEA MARKS for the Commons Group in Vermont. Recent workshop presentations include THE GHOST BROTHERS OF DARKLAND COUNTY by Stephen King and John Mellencamp. He has directed over 100 developmental workshops and readings, many of them for NYU's Graduate Musical Theater Writing Program. His extensive appearances as a performer include Broadway(Mary Poppins, A Christmas Carol,She Loves Me),off-Broadway, regional theatre, film (Kissing Jessica Stein), recordings and television. Nick is also the new Artistic Director of The Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma






 
Mary MacLeod
Mary MacLeod (Choreography)

Mary MacLeod has appeared on Broadway in FOSSE, SEUSSICAL, CHICAGO, COMPANY (Kathy), GUYS & DOLLS, and SMOKEY JOE'S CAFÉ (Dance Captain/ASM). Other NY credits include FIORELLO, CAN-CAN, BYE-BYE BIRDIE (Associate Choreographer), and JUNO for the City Center Encores! Series. National Tours Include JEROME ROBBINS' BROADWAY, OKLAHOMA (Dream Laurey), GUYS & DOLLS, and CHICAGO (Mona). Regionally she has been seen as Nickie in SWEET CHARITY, Velma in CHICAGO, Lola in DAMN YANKEES, in addition to the ensembles of EVITA, PAINT YOUR WAGON, 42nd STREET, CARNIVAL, and ON YOUR TOES. She has recently danced the role of The Princess in Stravinsky's L'HISTOIRE DU SOLDAT with the Philadelphia and Boston Symphony orchestras. Mary has worked as an assistant choreographer, and teaches Theatre Dance in NYC and around the country. She most recently re-created the original Bob Fosse choreography for the Encores! Summer Stars production of DAMN YANKEES.

Kim Vasquez (Producing Consultant/General Manager)

Kim Vasquez/ Gray Lady Entertainment, Inc. is a theatrical producing and consulting company. She is currently producing the new musicals Max and the Truffle Pig, About Face, Pterodactyl Island and Simon Says a play by Mat Schaffer. She has produced for NYMF, Such Good Friends which was the recipient of five theatre awards including: Best New Musical of the Year from Talkin’ Broadway 2007 and Emerald Man in 2006. As a Director, Kim directed the first-female version of Fully Committed by Becky Mode, starring Amy Stiller as “Sam” and Beirut by Alan Bowne. As an Actor, Kim has performed in many stage productions most recently Arthur Kopit’s Chamber Music playing Woman with Notebook. She is a graduate of the University of Minnesota, The National Shakespeare Conservatory, The Commercial Theatre Institute and she is a founding Producer of the New York Musical Theatre Festival and an adjunct member of The Broadway League.

 
Lydia St. Claire (Costumes/Wardrobe Supervisor)

Lydia St. Claire has designed costumes for The Berkshire Theatre Festival, The Lee Strasberg Theatre, Bette Midler’s Hulaween Benefit (2000), and numerous productions in regional and non-profit venues in New York, New Orleans and San Francisco, and Los Angeles. She is a Seventh Avenue fashion designer whose exquisite garments have appeared in Vogue, Town & Country, and Harper’s Bazaar. She has designed gowns for Valerie Simpson, Diana Ross, Lisa Hartman Black, and Angela Lansbury as well as dozens of concert artists and performers throughout the U.S. and Europe. She has recently been invited to create Better Sportswear and Eveningwear lines for Saks Fifth Avenue and has been invited to show her collections at Seventh on Sixth for the last four years. A native of New Orleans, she began her career designing Mardi Gras costumes for the most prestigious Krewes in the Big Easy.

 
Jim Milkey (Lighting Designer)

James Milkey – NY: Emerald Man, Such Good Friends (NYMF), Glimpes of the Moon, Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome (Fractured Atlas), Lounge Act (Lunatic Theatre Company), Pygmalion (NY Baroque Dance Company). Regional: Castro’s Beard, The Shape of Things, Ear’s on a Beatle (Barrington Stage Company), The Wild Party, Johnny Guitar (Speakeasy Stage Company). He is also the associate on Irving Berlin’s White Christmas and assistant FX designer on the Spamalot Tour and Spamalot Vegas.
