WARSAW follows Roman, a young Jewish man, who is trapped inside the Warsaw ghetto, separated from his fiancee, Ana, a Polish Catholic.  With a richly harmonic and soaring score, we watch their struggle to reunite against overwhelming odds as Roman joins a small group of fighters who struggle for freedom and dignity.  WARSAW is based on true events during World War II and honors the memory of the Ghetto fighters' struggle.

Jamibeth Margolis (Director) NYC Directing Credits include: Assistant Director to Jerry Zaks on the 2006 Broadway revival of THE CAINE MUTINY COURT MARTIAL and also on A BAD FRIEND by Jules Feiffer at Lincoln Center Theatre. Jamibeth directed PLANE CRAZY and FAR FROM THE MADDING CROWD at the New York Musical Theatre Festival as well as developmental productions and readings of OWL CREEK:A NEW MUSICAL, WARSAW, DREAMWEAVERS, BERLIN, GREAT GOOGLEY MOO, FAMILY DINNER, DON'T BLAME ME...I VOTED FOR HELEN GAHAGAN DOUGLAS, DEAR MAUDIE and more at prominent NYC venues. Recent regional credits include directing DO I HEAR A WALTZ? and JEKYLL AND HYDE at the Arvada Center Theatre in Denver. Jamibeth is a member of the Lincoln Center Directors Lab and specializes in the development of new plays and musicals. She has a B.A. in Drama/Directing from Ithaca College and is a member of the Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers. She is also a professional casting director with twelve years of experience in NYC including numerous shows on Broadway, Off-Broadway and national tours.

 
John Atkins (Bookwriter & Lyricist)

JOHN ATKINS (Book & Lyrics) has previously written book and lyrics for the musical Stages and libretto for the opera Redemption. He is currently developing the new musical Space with Michael Scott Brewster. He received an MFA in Creative Writing from George Mason University, and is an alumnus of the BMI Musical Theater Workshop.

 
William Wade
William Wade (Composer, Orchestrator, Additional Lyrics)

William has written in a variety of forms and styles. Musicals: WARSAW (music) with John Atkins (CAMI Hall & Dixon Place), Alice (music & lyrics)with Frank Blocker (BMI & York Theatre), and Wounded Knee which is currently in development; Ballets: The Empty Pot: A Chinese Fable, Mole Music, Madeline (presented at Symphony Space), and Snow White.

William's orchestrations have been used by the Broadway Theatre Project, National Dance Institure, and Rosie's Broadway Kids. He has worked for ABT, Alvin Ailey, AMDA, Cedar Lake, Donald Byrd, The Julliard School, Mark Morris Dance Group, Metropolitan Opera, Swan Lake (Broadway), among many, and is a founding faculty member of the Professional Musical Theatre Workshop at Manhattan School of Music. BA in Music Composition, University of South Florida; BMI Advanced Musical Theatre Workshop.

 
John Bell
John Bell (Musical Director)

New York: Meet Me In St. Louis at the Irish Repertory Theatre (starring George S. Irving), Plain & Fancy at the York Theatre Company (starring Cady Huffman and Charlotte Rae), Izzy The Dizzy Musical Fairy Tale with Amas Musical Theatre, Plane Crazy at NYMF: Next Link, (2005). Regional: Hello Dolly, Forever Plaid, A Dash of Rosemary, Owl Creek: A New Musical. John has worked with the Riverside Theatre, the Florida Repertory Theatre, the Hangar Theatre, Pittsburgh CLO, and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. He holds a BFA in Musical Theatre from Ithaca College, and has also studied at the Manhattan School of Music. John teaches musical theatre classes and is on the faculty of Music Theater Italy. This fall, he is also musical director for the NYMF production of The Angle of the Sun.

 
Joel E. Silver (Lighting Designer)

Recent design credits include Back In The Day (Cape Cod Rep), Lunch Hour (Heiress Productions), The Charm of Preparedness (Baruch College), Homefront (La MaMa), Big Bang for Cleo Mack Dance Company, Behind the Limelight (NYMF & NYSaF), La Gioconda (Theatre Row), Chita Rivera's Cabaret tour, and many others. As an Assistant & Associate Designer, Joel has worked on Avenue Q (Las Vegas), Grey Gardens, Kiki and Herb Alive on Broadway, Curtains, and he is currently assisting on Young Frankenstein: The New Mel Brooks Musical. Joel has also worked with the Spoleto Festival USA, MTC, LAByrinth, Playwrights Horizons, and the Cherry Lane Theatre.

 
Andrew Fritsch (Lighting Designer)

Andrew recently graduated from the University of Michigan with a BFA in Design & Production, and is excited to finally be designing in New York City. Josh Young (Roman)

Josh is thrilled to be involved in this reading of WARSAW. He has recently returned from touring the world with the International Tour of West Side Story where he played Tony. Prior to touring internationally, Josh played Marius in the National Tour of Les Miserables. Josh is a graduate of Syracuse University's BFA Musical Theater Program. Reed Prescott (Benjamin)

Reed is thrilled to be a part of NYMF again this year, having played the title role in last year's sold-out, extended hit, Oedipus for Kids! and Frankenstein in 2004. Other recent NY credits include the GLAAD-nominated Kiss and Cry and The Holy Shit Show at the Public Theatre. Regional: Deathtrap, Advice From a Caterpillar, Little Shop of Horrors, and The Seagull, among many. Reed was an original cast member of Bare - a pop opera and played Bobby in the West Coast premiere of Sondheim's Saturday Night at the Pasadena Playhouse. Ben Diskant graduated from Northwestern University where he most recently performed in Mary Zimmerman's production of Cymbeline. He has appeared in two American Musical Theatre Projects, Was (directed by Tina Landau) and Dangerous Beauty (directed by Sheryl Kaller). He was seen in the Williamstown Theatre Festival's production of Anything Goes, starring Sharon Lawrence and directed by Roger Rees.

Stephanie is happy to have recently returned to NYC after travelling around the globe, performing on mulitple cruise lines. Most recently, she spent a year singing with the Artisti Del Arte ad the Venitian Casino in Las Vegas. An AMDA graduate, she is thrilled to be a part of WARSAW.

Kip Driver (Moishe, Mordechai, Roman u/s)

Kip was in the final touring company of Les Miserables as Montparnasse, as well as understudying the role of Enjolras. Prior to that, he was in the movie version of The Producers. National tours include Cats (Munkustrap), Cinderella (Prince U/S) starring Eartha Kitt, Martin Guerre, and the 'N SYNC 2001 tour. Favorite regional roles include Sunday in the Park With George (George), Tommy (Tommy), Pippin (Pippin), and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (Joseph). Kip was most recently seen as Combeferre (and Dance Captain) in Les Miserables at the Pioneer Theatre Company.

Julie is currently on Broadway in The Phantom of the Opera (Christine alternate). She recently played Julie Jordon in Walnut Street Theatre's production of Carousel. Jeff attended the Broadway Theatre Project over the summer where he read the White Knight in a workshop of Frank Wildhorn's new musical, Alice. Favorite productions include Guys and Dolls, Cabaret, Three-Penny Opera (Street Singer), and Turandot (the Executioner) with Opera Theatre of the Rockies. Jeff lives in Colorado where he studies voice with Martile Rowland (Classical Magazine's Teacher of the Year), and he dances with the Colorado Jazz Dance Company.

Michele Firestone (Dramaturg)

Michele specializes in the development of new works. She received her training in dramaturgy & script development from Columbia University where she was dramaturg of the Monday night reading series and a variety of new plays and classics. Michele has worked in venues such as McCarter Theatre, Johnson-Liff Casting in NYC, and as an assistant director at The Cleveland Play House, Cain Park, and The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey, She has a B.A. in English Literature / Directing from Bucknell University.

 
Kristyn R. Smith
Kristyn R. Smith (Sound Designer)

Kristyn is pleased to be designing again. Her most recent sound design was for the Midori and Friends annual concert earlier this summer. This past year, she has also designed at The New School for Drama as part of their Random Acts Festival and has acted as systems designer / audio supervisor for the Under the Radar Festival at The Public Theater. Kristyn has also had the pleasure of working on See What I Wanna See, The Ruby Sunrise and Stuff Happens at The Public as well as Macbeth and Mother Courage for last summer's Shakespeare in the Park. Other sound design credits include Great Googley Moo (Sage Theater), The Red Box (Walkerspace), Johnny Got His Gun (Ace of Clubs), Byzantium (Village Theater), Nights of Wrath (Greenwich Street Theater), and The Capital Mall (St. Clements). Mickey McGuire (Marketing)

Mickey is a recent graduate of Rutgers University, where he earned his degree in Theater Arts, concentrating in Arts Management. While at Rutgers, he served as the Managing Director for the Livingston Theatre Company, the school's musical theater organization. He has also worked in New York doing commercial booking with The Road Company and marketing at Lincoln Center. Mickey is the owner of Mick Productions LLC, where he produced a reading of Moby Dick! The Musical at the George Street Playhouse.

 
Kyle Koszewnik (Assistant Stage Manager)

Kyle is a recent graduate of Syracuse University and is new to NYC. Her last project was stage managing The Winter's Tale at the Syracuse drama department. Other credits include Gem of the Ocean, The Red Sun and the Green Moon Children's Tour, & Bas Dates with Syracuse Stage as well as Nerve at the Thirteenth Street Repertory Theater.
