MANAGER OF DEVELOPMENT - NEW YORK MUSICAL THEATRE FESTIVAL
The award-winning New York Musical Theatre Festival, now in its seventh year, seeks a Manager of Development to help the organization continue its strategic growth and ensure that it can continue to serve as the world’s leading showcase of new musical theatre projects and talent.
The Manager of Development reports to the Executive Director & Producer, and will be responsible for overseeing the organization’s fundraising and marketing strategies, including: maintaining relationships with contributors and supporters (including individuals, government agencies and institutional supporters); identifying, cultivating and soliciting funding prospects; serving as a liaison to the Board of Directors; maintaining the development database and mailing lists; and supervising interns and outside staff who assist with development activities.

Works Closely With
: Programming Director, Operations Director, General Manager, Board of Directors. 

Supervises
: Audience Services Manager, Marketing Associate, Development Interns.

Specific Areas of Responsibility:

1. Individual Giving
  • Oversees the annual membership and patron campaigns, including creation of online and print promotional materials, mailings, and other outreach, and fulfillment of patron and member benefits.
  • Communicates with major individual supporters and oversees the publication of member/supporter e-newsletters.

2. Institutional Giving
  • Works closely with Executive Director to manage and cultivate funder relationships.
  • Creates grant/funding proposals and funder reports (and supervises outside grant writers).
  • Identifies sponsorship targets and assists Executive Director in outreach to potential sponsors
  • Researches and maintains records with respect to potential and current funders; compiles and maintains grant-writing and overall development calendar

3. Advertising & Fundraising Events
  • Recruits in-kind donors, manages ticket sales, and participates in overall planning for two major fundraisers each year, as well as several smaller events.
  • Oversees advertising sales in festival/gala programs, e-newsletter, and website

Personality/Background
A successful candidate for this position will be an organized self-starter with positive energy and a commitment to the long-term success and growth of the company; a team player able to work as part of a small staff; able to network, delegate, multi-task, and prioritize in a fast-paced, creative environment; comfortable with detail; and able to maintain focus on both long- and short-term projects, deadlines, and goals.  Excellent writing, oral communication, and customer service skills are essential, as is prior experience in development or fundraising. Experience with Salesforce.com a plus. The ideal candidate will be a creative thinker and strategic marketer interested in growing with the organization.
