Audience Demographics

Getting to know our audience

NYMF's fan base is very loyal and enthusiastic about the Festival, with as many as 75% attending multiple Festival performances.

The typical NYMF audience member is a young (35 or under) woman or gay man working in the creative or entertainment industries.

Most of our audience are in-the-know locals; 95% lives within the five boroughs of New York City.  Over 80% have a college education or beyond, and their average salary is between $75,000 and $100,000.

Approximately 43,000 people will attend the Festival in 2008.  While this is perhaps a moderate-sized audience in a city of 8 million people, it is of most interest to a sponsor or advertiser because of the consistency and loyalty of our demographic.

NYMF audience members are enthusiastic entertainment consumers who choose to interact with a living, vibrant artform.  They are socially forward and willing to sample new products and ideas, hence their excitement in an arts festival.  Live performance is an excellent way to speak directly and immediately with an audience.  Trust us - we've learnt that.

NYMF Numbers
The Festival has grown consistently - and remarkably - over our four years.  Festival attendance more than doubled from 18,000 in our inaugural season in 2004 to over 41,000 in 2007. On the first day of tickets sales alone, more than 4,000 seats have been purchased, and membership sales increased three-fold to over 500.  Festival shows play on average to more than 85% of capacity. 88% of our productions announce sold-out performances, and more than one-third of them extend their runs due to demand for tickets.
